Renewal energy, India

Carbon offsetting of the Climate Finance Day event:

As the Carbon Neutral Partner, EcoAct has selected these three carbon offsetting projects which comply with the most rigorous international carbon standards (Gold Standard and VCS) and best practices (ICROA) and contribute to the achievement of many Sustainable Development Goals.

Challenge:

In India, 56% of energy demand is covered by coal consumption. In the northwest, in the rural state of Gujarat, this dependence poses a threat to the environment and local populations.

Solution:

The Gandhi program produces low-carbon electricity using a local natural and renewable resource: wind.
Indian wind farms are developed, including Porbandar, the birthplace of Gandhi. Today, 21 wind turbines are involved in this energy transition. The program also contributes to education and health improvement.

Results:

Nearly 35 GWh of green electricity is produced every year, avoiding the emission of more than 30,000 TCO2e. It represents more than 75,000 tons of unburnt coal. The use of renewable energy contributes to a more stable and accessible electricity grid.

The program supports 80 schools (through scholarships), with a 50% increase of school enrollments in Tidi, Udaipur. It also supports more than 800 beneficiaries for food aid.
